The piano sonata 'Reconciliations' was completed in April 1985 and first performed by Raymond Clarke at the British Music Information Centre in February the following year. A subsequent call for works from the SPNM (now Sound and Music) led to its selection and repeat performance at the BMIC by pianist/composer Michael Finnissy in May 1986.

The performance presented here, a remaster of an original cassette recording, took place in the Great Hall at Nottingham University on 8 May 1986, once again performed by Raymond Clarke.
