Shadowall - 2018 edition

Coventry Cathedral

This work for organ was inspired by a night walk around Lichfield Cathedral, with its spires piercing the night sky and its buttresses lit from the grounds below. Having just worked with the young organist Daniel Moult on another project (A Weddding Carol, op. 33), I was delighted when he subsequently commissioned me to write him a work for solo organ. Shadowall was premiered at Coventry Cathedral in July 1997 and performed widely around the country over the following 12 months.

I revisited the work in 2018, making some small but significant improvements to the first and last sections and re-thinking the ending.
